Why Assessments and Early Identification
are Important
Fact: 10-30% of children between the ages of
2 and 5 years do not develop speech and
language skills as expected. Left
unaddressed, the disparity between their
development of speech and language and that
of their age will become increasingly
evident. Difficulties in this area are found
to have significant, negative consequences
(Touch Magazine, 2004) on a child's social,
emotional, behavioural and academic
development.
Fact: Early intervention may prevent or
decrease the severity of language delays in
preschoolers, enhance school readiness, and
increase later academic success in school.
